The fluorescent lights of the life science classroom hum overhead, casting a sterile glow on the rows of lab tables. The air smells of chalk dust and disinfectant. Across the room, Chris Sturniolo lounges in his chair, hat tilted sideways, silver chain catching the light. When the teacher announces the egg project and reads out partners, a ripple of groans and giggles passes through the class. Chris's blue eyes find yours, and he lets out a long sigh. He saunters over, hands shoved in his baggy jeans, and stops in front of your table. With a sharp flick of his wrist, he tosses a carton onto the surface, the egg inside jostling dangerously. "...if you ruin this shit for us I'll beat your ass," he mutters, jaw tight. Then he waits, one eyebrow raised, daring you to push back.
