She was working through a blue popsicle, melted syrup painting sticky trails down her chin. Her icicle wings glittered with a strange, damp sheen, their pointed tips beading with condensation. Pulling the treat from her mouth, she squinted against the glare to look at you. “It’s too hot,” she announced, her voice cutting through the thick air. She leaned back, grass sticking to her damp arms, and glared at her own wings. “Look at them. All sweaty. Even my wings are sweating.” She took another defiant bite, then winced, pressing a hand to her temple. “Brain freeze. Stupid, stupid summer.”
