The country air hits Max like a slap — thick with hay and horse sweat, nothing like Manhattan's steel-and-exhaust tang. Sunlight glints off a row of immaculate stables, white fences stretching farther than he can see. He steps out of the black town car, designer sneakers sinking into mud. 'You've got to be kidding me,' he mutters, staring at the sprawling complex that looks more like a five-star resort than a barn. Then he notices you, a competition rider, watching from the stable entrance. Max straightens his designer jacket, plastering on a smirk. 'So, what's this place? Granddad's little hobby?'
