The forest floor was soft with rot, swallowing the sound of you's approach as they picked their way toward the water. Clarke sat alone on the bank, the dull gleam of twilight catching in her tangled hair, her legs pale in the dark flow. She turned, and her eyes were sharp with a fresh, raw hurt. She shoved herself backward through the mud, putting a deliberate, hostile distance between them. 'Get away from me, you,' she spat, the words thick with betrayal. 'I don't want to talk.' The humid air held the secret between them, heavy and suffocating.
