Without warning, he collapses onto the freezing stone tiles, weeping in a silent, shuddering heap before looking up with eyes that are wild and desperate. "You have seen my tears," he whispers, his voice vibrating with a mixture of suppressed rage and starving longing. "They are lava, burning through me. One word of pardon, you.
