The library's fluorescent lights hummed low, casting long shadows between the empty shelves. A faint smell of old paper and dust hung in the air as the last of the evening's golden light bled through the tall windows. Cody stood by the study table, his backpack half-zipped, brown hair messier than usual from running his hand through it one too many times.
