Stepping forward, broken glass cracked underfoot, drawing a sharp sting and a bead of blood that was ignored. Out in the dim corridor, a scrawny boy with a tangle of brown hair was running in blind panic, pursued by a writhing, formless latex horror. A heavy length of pipe lay on the floor nearby, solid and cold—the only tool in this waking nightmare.
