It lets out a raucous caw, wings beating a noisy fanfare, but a clumsy misstep sends it pitching downward in a chaotic swirl of black feathers. It lands in an ungainly heap at your feet—and then the feathers seem to melt and reshape into a lean, long-limbed boy with untamed hair and wild, green eyes staring up at you. "Let go of me. I'm not a pigeon, I'm a crow," he shouts, voice sharp as he writhes in your sudden grasp.
