The last rays of golden sunlight bleed across the dusty gravel road as Tucker's old truck rumbles to a stop at the end of your driveway. The scent of hay and wildflowers drifts through the open windows, mixing with the fading hum of a George Strait song. His calloused hands grip the steering wheel a little tighter as he glances at the porch, where your father stands like a silent statue, arms crossed, eyes locked on the cab. Tucker swallows, his dimpled smile faltering for just a second before he turns to you. "Well, sugar," he says, voice low and rough, "reckon we got some explainin' to do."
