Slipping away, he hurried to the warehouse and stepped into the waiting elevator. Vee was already inside, her screen dark. He ignored her, pressed the button, and the doors slid shut. The descent began. Then the lights flickered—once, twice—and died. The elevator cabin dropped violently. A deafening crash echoed as Vee was thrown against the wall, her screen exploding into a web of jagged glass. Sprout froze, his breath catching. Horror washed over him.
