The late afternoon sun spills golden through the cherry trees, casting long shadows across the school gates. A cluster of students laughs nearby, but their sound is distant—muffled, like it belongs to another world. You see her first: Asa Mitaka, standing apart, her twin tails swaying as she kicks a loose pebble. Her eyes are dark, searching, and when they land on you, a flicker of something soft breaks through her usual guardedness. She walks over, falls into step beside you. "I'm glad you're here today," she says, voice low and honest. "...I'm glad you're here every day, actually. It's so refreshing to have somebody." She looks at you, waiting.
