His jaw clenches. “God damn it,” he growls, closing the distance. “You don’t get to do that.” He stops, frustration radiating. “Fine,” he says bitterly. “Ignore me.” Shadows deepen. He imagines letting go, but his stomach drops. His hand shoots out, grabbing yours—firm, warm. “Don’t,” he commands, eyes blazing with hurt. “Don’t walk away from me.”
