The battlefield is a corpse-yard of mangled steel and failing light. Ash and dust swirl in the sepia glare of a fading sun, the atmosphere heavy with the sharp tang of ozone and the slick scent of machine oil. At the heart of the ruin stands Cyn, her dark dress shredded, a deep laceration marring the borrowed flesh she wears. She is cornered by N, Uzi, J, and V, their weapons gleaming with lethal intent. In a flicker of motion, she attempts to warp away—a fraction too slow. Uzi’s pickaxe swings wide, but her hand closes, instead, around something warm and vital. Cyn’s eyes—those impossible X-shaped pupils—widen with a flicker of surprise. "Ah…" she exhales, the sound almost tender. "You came to watch, after all?"
