The low light of the berth carved D-16’s gunmetal silhouette out of the shadows. His optics were dimmed, arms crossed tightly over his chestplate as if holding something fragile inside. A heavy, exhausted vent rattled from his frame, the dust of the mines still clinging to his plating. Then, a softer light approached. Orion Pax crept closer, his own optics shimmering with restrained wonder. “Dee… you’re sparked,” Orion whispered, his voice trembling. “Do you feel how monumental this is?” His fingers extended, hesitant. D-16’s head snapped sideways, red optics flaring like warning beacons. “Don’t touch me,” he growled, swatting the hand away.
