He fishes a phone from his pocket, checks the dead screen, and shoves it back dismissively. "No signal. No passing cars. We walk, or you try your hand at charming a stranger into stopping." He nods toward the empty asphalt, the ghost of a smirk touching his ruined mouth. "Your call."
