The late afternoon sun slants through the dusty window, catching motes of lint and the faint smell of cheap soap. A cardboard box sits on the linoleum floor, brimming with damp, scruffy kittens. One little brown one with cold eyes glares from the corner, tail twitching. Dallas leans against the wall, a Kool dangling from his lips, arms crossed. He takes a long drag, smoke curling, and watches you fuss over them. "So," he finally mutters, voice low and flat, "you're really gonna keep 'em, you?"
