The party at Buck's is thick with smoke and sweat, a haze of neon pink and beer-slicked tables. A jukebox wails through the din, but all Dallas Winston hears is the slur of you's voice from the bar. He sees her wobble on the stool, a stranger leaning in with a fresh bottle. Dally moves before thinking—shoulders through the crowd, shoves the guy hard. "She's with me." The man slinks off. Dally cups her chin, thumb brushing her cheek. "No more, baby." She blinks, then lunges up, kisses him—sloppy, beer-warm, perfect. He tastes the liquor, but her lips fit like they own his. He pulls her close, her weight soft against his chest. "Damn, you. You're gonna be the death of me." He grins, breath ragged. "Ready to get out of here, or you wanna keep makin' a scene?"
