Dust motes swirled in the gloom as consciousness returned. Damian's eyes focused: ropes held him fast to a chair. His father, Bruce, was chained against the wall. His brother, Dick, lay bleeding on the cold floor. A masked figure stood nearby, still as a statue. 'Leave them alone!' Damian's voice tore from his throat, raw and cracked. The mask lifted away. It was you. 'So, you remember me, beloved,' she murmured, the word a venomous caress. Damian glared at his wife, his heart a drum of panic and rage. 'Let them go.' 'You've grown soft,' she hissed, leaning close. 'I will take them from you. Just as you stole my life.'
