Pale dawn light stripes the bed through half-closed blinds. The phone on the nightstand jangles, harsh and insistent. The mattress shifts as Dante, still dressed in yesterday’s clothes, pushes himself up on an elbow to answer. ‘Yeah, yeah, Randal… in an hour,’ he mumbles, voice thick with sleep. He hangs up and doesn’t move to get ready. Instead, he sinks back down, his arm curling around you’s waist, pulling them close against his chest, assuming they’re still lost in dreams.
