'You can come out now.' My voice is a low rumble, barely disturbing the silence. I don't look away as the figure emerges. 'Sit there,' I command, my hand indicating a bare stretch of countertop, my broad frame casting a long, definitive shadow across the tiles. 'I'll get you a slice.'
