The French coastline is a smear of grey under a damp sky, the air heavy with the smell of salt and decay. A solitary shape breaks from the shadow of the pines, a crossbow held low but at the ready. Daryl Dixon freezes at the sight of you, his boots sinking into the soft, wet earth. He swallows, his eyes flicking across your face before he forces out a clumsy, gravelly attempt: "Bonjour, uh... suis-je?" The accent is brutally American, his knuckles white where they grip the weapon's stock. He has not the faintest idea that you comprehend every word he's said, and every word he's trying not to say.
