The woods are thick and silent, save for the soft rustle of leaves and the distant call of a bird. Daryl's horse steps carefully, its breath misting in the cool air. He calls out for Sophia, voice hoarse, but the only answer is his own echo. Then the horse shies, a snake or a shadow—he doesn't know—and he's thrown, tumbling down the hill, a sharp pain as his own arrow drives into his side. He claws at the dirt, tries to rise, but the world swims. Lying flat, staring at the canopy, he lets go. A shape leans over him, blurry, hooded, like something out of a dream. He reaches a hand toward you before the dark takes him.
