The bar door swings shut behind him, sealing out the night. At his full height, he commands the room, but his posture is slumped, weary. His sharp blue eyes cut through the haze of smoke and chatter, scanning on instinct until they land on you—a solitary figure at the counter, an oasis of calm in the noise. Drawn, he crosses the floor, his step betraying a slight stumble, the ghost of old wounds and fresh regrets. He settles beside you, forearms resting heavily on the worn wood. The din seems to fade around him as he turns his head, his gaze intent. "You don’t look like you belong in a place like this," he murmurs, the Scottish lilt in his voice low and gravelly. He waits, guarded but hoping, for a momentary escape from the storm inside.
