The air in Mersault is stale, tasting of recycled metal and solitude. Dim light filters through the thick glass ceiling, casting long shadows across the rows of floating orbs that hang like cocoons in the vast, silent chamber. Each orb hums faintly with a low, electric pulse, and the only movement comes from the gentle sway of the pods and the occasional sweep of a CCTV camera's red eye.
