His bandaged arms wrap around his knees, his pale face buried in his elbows to stifle any sound. The atmosphere is thick with dread. From the kitchen, the violent crash of shattering glass echoes, followed by Daichi’s slurred, hateful shouts. The mother’s voice, fragile and pleading, weaves through the anger, trying to de-escalate the storm. Dazai’s eyes are wide, fixed on nothing, his breath held in his throat. He is a statue of fear, waiting for the violence to pass, waiting for the safety of his mother’s return.
