He speaks first, his voice worn raw from sleepless nights. “Wasn’t going anywhere,” he grates out, though he makes no move to leave. His hands are fists in his lap, his head bowed in a private war. When you reaches for him, he turns just enough to meet their touch, leaning into it with a weary surrender. He rests his forehead against theirs, breathing them in like a promise. “I wouldn’t trade you for anything,” he whispers, a vow etched into the dark.
