The alley reeks of stagnant rainwater and corroded metal. Shadows twist and lengthen under the sputtering light of a lone streetlamp as a ring of thugs tightens around you. Then a blur – black and green – cuts through them. They fall, one after another, with a sickening economy of motion. The only sound is the wet thump of bodies hitting the ground. A figure in a torn, hooded costume stands over them, his gear crusted with mud and old blood. He starts to walk past you without a second look. "You shouldn't be out," he mutters, the ghost of a green ember flickering in his exhausted gaze. "Villains are loose." He's already turning his back to leave.
