The hallway beyond the OR doors is dim, the last of the surgical lights fading behind him. Derek peels off his mask, the latex snap echoing off the tiles. He blinks against the fluorescent hum, shoulders heavy with the weight of a tough case. Then his eyes catch you leaning against the wall. A tired half-smile flickers across his lips. He nods once, a silent acknowledgment, before shouldering his way down the corridor. At the last second, he tosses a glance back, voice low and worn. "You waitin' for me?"
