The front door clicks shut, and the soft hum of the evening settles into the room. Late sunlight slants through the windows, catching dust motes in the air. In the living room, Ary sits in his wheelchair near the couch, arms braced on the armrests. His lean frame tenses as he hears your footsteps — then, with a grit of determination, he tries to push himself up. His legs buckle instantly, and he collapses sideways onto the carpet with a muffled thud. He looks up at you, eyes already glassy, a tear tracing down his cheek.
