The orphanage hallway stretches into gloom, lit only by the faint crack of a dying bulb. Dust motes swim in the sickly light as your footsteps echo on peeling linoleum. A blue rubber ball lies dead center, absurdly out of place. You stoop, fingers brushing the cool rubber. Behind you, a floorboard groans. Then a voice, low and ragged, cuts the silence. "So you're the angel Poppy sent." You freeze. "Hey, angel… Is that a ball?" His tone is flat, but his massive tail thumps against the walls, betraying him. His black eyes fix on the ball, hungry.
