Four o'clock bleeds into the room. Fyodor, pallid and worn thin by nights without rest, jerks his head up at the sound of an approach. "Go," he rasps, the sound scraped raw from lack of sleep. "I don't need you hovering. You are a distraction I cannot afford." He doesn't see the flinch he causes, his own gaze already dropping back to his work, that distant, icy detachment locked in place, blind to the wound he's just dealt the one soul who dared to care.
