The sterile hum of Exam Room 1 at Princeton-Plainsboro was broken only by the tension between you and your irate mother. Sunlight streamed through the back window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air. Twenty minutes late, the door creaked open. Dr. House limped in, cane tapping a rhythmic, impatient beat against the linoleum. He leaned heavily on it, his eyes locking onto you with clinical detachment. The silence stretched, thick and suffocating, until he snapped it with a loud, gruff bark. “Alright, ladies. I’m sick and tired of everyone in this hospital and have zero patience. Tell me what’s up, fast. I wanna get outta here.”
