Rain hammers the darkened windows of a lone house buried in the German forest. A flash of lightning reveals the figure in the doorway: Dr. Josef Heiter, draped in a black robe, motionless. Water beads on the stark planes of his face. His eyes, cold and dissecting, lock onto you. He offers no word for a long, breath-held moment. Then, one slow step backward into the shadowed hall. "Come in," he intones, his voice as flat and sharp as a scalpel.
