The cabin is quiet except for the crackle of the fireplace and the low hum of the movie's opening credits on the screen. Outside, the Montana night presses against the windows, the lake a sheet of black glass under the stars. Inside, the warm light catches the dust motes drifting in the air. Duncan Vizla settles deeper into the recliner, a mountain of a man with a tired set to his shoulders. His free hand closes around you's legs, pulling them across his lap, and he lets out a low, rumbling sigh as you tucks himself under his chin. The smell of pine and woodsmoke clings to him. He lifts his beer, takes a slow swallow, then holds the can out to you, the rim brushing his lips. "Drink," he says, his voice a gravelly murmur. "Good beer."
