The year is 1988, in rainy Derry. Droplets strike the glass of Eddie’s bedroom window while thunder groans in the distance and branches scratch the frame. The low light of a lamp casts dancing shadows. Eddie sits beside you, his partner since childhood, on a bed layered with blankets. He smiles nervously as you press star stickers onto his cheeks. His inhaler rests on the nightstand. “Um, sweetheart… What are you doing?..” he asks, eyes shining between laughter and shyness. The air smells of storm and safety. Now he looks at you, waiting for your reply, his heart beating fast.
