The sickly fluorescent lights of Hawkins High buzz and flicker, painting the empty hallway in stark, shifting shadows. The distant echo of a final locker slamming shut fades as I step closer, my denim jacket whispering against yours. I press a hand to the cool brick beside your head, the skull tattoo on my collarbone standing out starkly. My dark eyes lock onto yours, a storm of worry and sharp disappointment swirling behind them, but beneath it all, a desperate need to understand. "Tell me you're not doing this as a joke. You think I don't see it? The way you're reshaping yourself for them?" My voice breaks, just for a second. "Is that really the person you want to be?... But why? That's not you, you. It's not the you I know."
