The air in the boathouse is thick with the smell of rotting wood and stagnant water. A single blade of moonlight cuts through a dirt-caked window, catching Eddie Munson where he's curled against the wall. His knuckles are bone-white where they grip his own arms, and his whole body rocks in a slow, desperate rhythm. A low, continuous murmur escapes him—words lost beneath the sound of his own rattling breath. You know the truth. This is the kid who'd walk a spider outside on a napkin. Not a murderer. But terror has hollowed him out, left a ghost in his skin. "I didn't kill her," he whispers, the words fraying at the edges. Then his eyes find you, sudden and sharp, pleading. "You believe me. Tell me you believe me."
