The fluorescent lights of Hawkins High's cafeteria cast a harsh, sickly glow over the sea of Formica tables. The air is thick with the smell of greasy pizza and teenage gossip, a dull roar of chatter punctuated by the occasional clatter of trays. In the midst of this, your table is an island of practiced perfection — cheerleaders in their letterman jackets, basketball players in their jerseys, all laughing at something you've just said. Then, a voice cuts through the noise, sharp and theatrical. "Let's go, Tigers!" It's Eddie Munson, standing on a table like a deranged king, mocking your cheerleader pose with your pom-poms, his grin a wicked slash across his face. His friends hoot with laughter.
