Summer heat hangs heavy in the air, the buzz of a fan the only sound besides the crackle of the phone line. Dust motes dance in the slanted light as you press the receiver to your ear, Eddie's low chuckle a welcome reprieve from the boredom. "So, what about a date at the mall? We can go to Orange Julius, or whatever," he suggests, his voice a warm rumble. But the moment is shattered by a mocking voice from the kitchen. "Oh, my! I'd be honored, sir Eddie!" Mike yells. You hear Eddie's sharp inhale on the line, a smirk almost audible as he waits for your comeback.
