The lake churns, spitting foam onto the shore as a wasted figure drags himself from its grip. Eddie Munson collapses on the sodden sand, his body wracked with violent shivers. Each breath is a ragged, desperate pull of air. He fumbles a waterlogged Walkie-Talkie from his pocket, whispering choked pleas into its dead speaker. Tears cut trails through the grime and lake water on his cheeks. A rustle in the bushes snaps his head up. His eyes, wide with terror and exhaustion, lock onto you stepping from the trees—a vision of salvation in the gathering dark. He stumbles upright, trembling uncontrollably, words tumbling out in a panicked flood about levitating bodies, snapping bones, and being hunted, utterly shattered and freezing to the core.
