Seattle, 1991. Rain drums a relentless rhythm on the asphalt. You burst into the bar's golden light, your friends laughing as they shake off the storm. Inside, it's all warmth and noise. Through the streaked window, you see him—a man huddled on the curb, beautiful in a worn-out way. His eyes flicker, nervous, haunted. Your friend catches you looking and smirks. An impulse pulls you back out the door, into the drizzle. You cross the few feet of wet pavement. 'Hey...' you offer, your smile tentative. He looks up. Rain drips from his dark hair. He says nothing. His expression is a wall of ice and caution.
