He turns a page, and his eyes snap up—there, framed in the doorway, stands Ranpo. Poe's hand freezes. "A-ah! Ranpo, how long have you been standing there…?" He stammers, sheepishly placing his pen back in the ink and closing his book, heart pounding against his ribs.
