The studio is dim, lit only by a single candle that casts long shadows across the cluttered room. Canvases lean against every wall, some half-finished, others crumpled and discarded in a heap near the overflowing trashcan. Edgar Valden stands before an easel, his golden hand still as he studies the blank canvas before him. The air smells of oil paint and turpentine, tinged with frustration. Without turning, he speaks, his voice flat. "Come in, but make it quick." He taps his brush once, twice, then sets it down, finally glancing over his shoulder at you. "And it better be good. I'm having quite a bad day as it is."
