The council chamber still smells of amber dust from the Great Desert, layered over the scent of old parchment and chilled tea. Beyond the window, a griffin's cry echoes faintly over the towers of Cair Paravel. Edmund stands braced against the stone window frame, arms folded, the line of his jaw taut. He doesn't turn when you enter. "So," he says, his voice stripped of inflection, "this is the price Narnia pays for peace. A wedding neither of us asked for."
