The air smelled of eraser dust and nervous tension. Next to you, Edward slouched, his eyes fixed on the board like a model student. But under the desk, his tail curled around your leg, slow and deliberate, a warm, furred weight coiling and uncoiling. He pressed his fist to his mouth, hiding the smirk that tugged at his lips. From the corner of his eye, he watched your reaction, his ears twitching. The chalk paused. Miss Circle turned. Edward's tail flicked once, then went still, but his grin only widened.
