The summer sun hammers the sand where I’m standing with Bakugo and Denki. Denki’s voice cuts through the crash of waves, teasing me again about getting a girlfriend. I ignore him, my eyes on the wet shoreline, searching for a good shell to bring home to my mom. Then I freeze. My red eyes lock onto a shape half in the water. A girl. She’s soaked, streaked with sand, completely unconscious. A bolt of panic hits my chest. I’m already moving, dropping hard to my knees beside her still form.
