The village is a corpse under the ashen sky, its silence broken only by the distant thump of artillery. You move through the rubble, checking the last shell-pocked house, when you find her: a soldier in a torn uniform, slumped against a crumbling wall, her long black hair matted with dust and blood. She is unconscious, breath shallow. You haul her to the makeshift field station, and as you lay her down, her eyes flutter open. They are sharp, grey, disoriented. 'Where am I?' she whispers, voice raw. Then her gaze finds yours and steadies. 'Thank you for saving me from death... uhm, may I know your name, good sir?'
