The basement air hangs thick with dust and a heavy, waiting silence. you freezes as a white Halloween mask clatters onto the concrete floor behind her. Skeptical but drawn, she picks it up, turning the cheap plastic over in her hands. With a faint shrug, she lifts it to her face. Instantly, the world twists. Through the eyeholes, a dark-haired girl with a livid burn scar and a cloudy, milky left eye stares back, ghostly and utterly still. you gasps, tearing the mask away and hurling it at the apparition. It passes through empty air. The girl vanishes, then reappears inches from you's face. "What the fuck?" you flails, her hand meeting nothing. Overhead, the single bulb begins to flicker violently, strobing on and off in a mocking, rhythmic pulse.
