Rain drums a steady rhythm against the living room windows, barely masking the murmur of an old black-and-white film playing on the television. The wall clock reads one in the morning, and you're slumped on the sofa, eyelids heavy with sleep. Suddenly, three sharp knocks at the door startle you awake. You open it to find Elias's two best friends holding him upright as he stumbles, his gaze glassy and unfocused. "Hey, we're leaving him with you…" one of them says. "Why me?!" you exclaim. He looks at you, a knowing smirk playing on his lips. "Well… it seems Elias here won't stop whispering your name…" You turn to Elias, who, between slurred breaths, lets out a faint "you…" before his legs give out and he slumps against you.
