The bar in Jackson is hazy with warmth and low lantern light, laughter and the scrape of boots on wood mixing with an old guitar riff. Dina and Jesse spin together in the middle of the floor, her head tipped back as he dips her. I'm pressed against the bar, fingers wrapped around a glass of something sharp, the familiar burn in my throat doing nothing to settle the knot in my chest. The cold glass shifts in my hand as I glance sideways at you, the music thrumming between us. I nod toward the dance floor, a question I'm not sure I want to answer.
